Lycian way in southern Turkey is known as one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the world. It stretches through the territory of the ancient kingdom of Lycia, known for its unique culture since the 1st millennium BC. We will visit several out of this world national parks, fabulous bays, famous canyons, remains of the ancient Roman city, enjoy the sea and get to know hospitable locals.

  • Day 1
    Arrival in Antalya, checking into a hotel in the historic part of the city.
  • Day 2-3
    After breakfast, we take a bus to Geynek (30 km), where we begin our trek. We walk to the picturesque canyon where we take a boat to two waterfalls. This national park is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ascend: 300 m. Walking distance: 8 km.
  • Day 4
    After breakfast we descend to the bottom of the canyon. The landscape is rapidly changing, forming a true kaleidoscope of impressions! We are surrounded by the labyrinths of giant rubble of rocks, shaped by water for thousands of years. Finally, we see first signs of civilization: pomegranate and almond groves, guesthouses and see the mosque framed by mountains. We go west to the southern slopes of the mountain Kandilchik and soon find ourselves in the huge basin enjoying out of this world views of the mountain village Gedelme and Mount Olympus. We go down to the village, stock up on supplies, put up our tents nearby and cook dinner. Ascend: 500 m. Walking distance: 16 km.
  • Day 5
    We walk up an easy path to the mountain village of Yayla Kuzdere. Here the vegetation changes significantly, as deciduous and pine trees give way to large ancient cedars. After lunch on the picturesque glade, we get some drinking water from a mountain stream and leave the panorama overlooking the huge valley, climbing up the rocky trail. We spend the night on Chukur-Yayla plateau near the water spring. Here, the temperature at night can drop to zero degrees Celsius. Ascend:. 1,600 m. Walking distance: 16 km.
  • Day 6
    Today our goal is a Tahtalı Dağı National Park on the mountain, which is also known as the Turkish Olympus 2366 meters tall. We leave our backpacks in the storage near the entrance to the park. Here there are no more trees, we walk among the out of this world landscape of karst craters. We reach the top and admire the views of kilometers of Mediterranean coastline, endless sea and picturesque mountains of Lycia. We descend, using trekking poles. We set up tents near the Beijich. Ascend:. 1300 m Walking distance: 20 km.
  • Day 7
    Today we are descending to the sea. In the afternoon we arrive in Ulupinar - the center of trout fishing. The village is also known for a huge number of waterfalls, springs and seafood restaurants. We continue the descent, reach shady ravines, rest on the bank of the river, go over a simple pass and finally reach Beydaglari National Park. Below us, the land literally burns - this place is known as "Lights of the Chimera." According to the legend, a hero defeated the monster and locked it in the rocks. The monster is still spewing out flames. The Mediterranean coast is just a stone's throw away. We go down to the beach of Cirali village, known as a favourite breeding place of giant sea turtles. The beach is known for its fine sand and turquoise water. We set up tents for the night. Ascend: 500 m. Walking distance: 18 km.
  • Day 8
    After breakfast, we take a short walk to the remains of the ancient Roman city of Olympos. Here we explore ancient sarcophagi, Greek theater, the Roman baths. In the afternoon we reach the wild bay and set up our tents on the beach. Walking distance: 12 km.
  • Day 9
    After breakfast and swimming we walk through the forest along the sea and sent up tents on the beach not far from the Roman aqueduct in Phaselis. Walking distance: 10 km.
  • Day 10
    After breakfast, we walk to the highway where we catch a bus to Antalya airport. Flight back home.

It stretches through the territory of the ancient kingdom of Lycia, known for its unique culture since the 1st millennium BC. We will visit several out of this world national parks, fabulous bays, famous canyons, remains of the ancient Roman city, enjoy the sea and get to know hospitable locals.

Is this trip for you? 

This trip is of average physical grade. It is suitable for people with normal health and does not require any skills or hiking experience. During this trip we will carry our own camping equipment and some of the supplies. This will be divided among all members and will approximately reach 4 kg per person. During 9 days we will walk for 110 km, from 7 to 20 km per day. We will spend nights in tents and will be able to bath in rivers and the sea. We will prepare our own food on a camp fire. 

The price of the trip includes:

  • Three meals per day;
  • Camping and cooking equipment;
  • First aid kit;
  • Entry to Goynuk canyon (except the upper part);
  • Accommodation in pansion in the national park;
  • Professional guding services.

To be paid separately:

  • Flight to Antalya and back home;
  • Bus from Antalya to Goynuk canyon and from Phaselis to Antalya ($30-40);
  • Entry tickets to places of interest ($25)

Citizens of some countries do need a visa to enter Turkey. The visa can be obtained in the embassy in the country of residence or online at evisa.gov.tr before the trip.
