Tour description

Breathtaking landscapes of Tibet and some of world’s main holy sites - these three weeks will definitely turn to life lasting memories. We will start in the ancient Kathmandu valley, then explore the capital of Tibet - Lhasa, will visit the grand Potala - Palace of the Dalai lama. After enjoying Manasarovar lake, considered holy by Hindu and Buddhist alike, and will perform kora - the pilgrimage trek around the holy Kailas mountain, the most mystical place on Earth. Having visited remains of the 10th century Guge kingdom and the highest monastery in the world, we will arrive at the foot of the majestic Everest mountain, the base camp.

This trip is dynamic, of above average difficulty level. It includes bus rides up to 10 hours a day with sightseeing on the way and three days of trekking (up to 5 hours on two days and up to 12 hours on one day) on high altitudes (up to 5200 above sea level). During trekking we will be spending nights in simple guest houses on the way. One night will be spent in tents. In other times accommodation will be provided in 3 star hotels (in Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse), simple guesthouses and hotels (other places), most of them will have hot running water and wi fi internet.

Price of the trip includes:

  • Visa to China and permit to enter Tibet;
  • Accommodation in double, triple rooms of 3 star hotels (in Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse), in budget hotels and hostels (other places);
  • Breakfasts in 3 star hotels in Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse;
  • Transportations by buses, rented cars including public transport;
  • Tickets to attractions, including Kailas and Manosarovar permits, tickets to temples, monasteries, observation decks, and other places of interest;
  • Rent of yaks for transportation of luggage during kora;
  • Guiding services during the entire trip.

Price of the trip does not include:

  • Flight to Kathmandu and from Kathmandu back home;
  • Visa to Nepal ($40);
  • Medical insurance (mandatory);
  • Food during the entire trip (apr. $8-15 per person per day).

Tour itinerary

Day 1-3

Arrival in Kathmandu, checking into a hotel on Freak street. During our two days in Nepalese capital we will visit all the famous attractions of the city - the ancient Swayambhunath complex, Durbar square and the remains of Boudhanath - the largest single Chorten in the world, severely damaged during 2015 Nepal earthquake. We will also visit the remains of ancient kingdoms of Patan and Bhaktapur on the outskirts of the city.

Day 4-6

Departure to Lhasa on a specially rented bus and crossing the border with China. It will take us approximately 3 days to get to Lhasa (1002 km), during which we will be stopping for sightseeing and nights in hotels as well as slowly adapting to the growing altitudes. On the way we visit major attractions and spiritual centers of Central Tibet: 15th century Tashilunpo monastery in Xigaze, the Kumbum Stupa and fortress in Gyantse and sacred Yamdrok Tso lake. We will be staying overnight in simple guest houses. On the way to Lhasa we will also cross the pass at an altitude of 5200 m above sea level and few other 5000 m passes.

Day 7-9

Arrival in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region, checking into a hotel. We visit the grand Potala Palace - residence of Dalai Lamas (see the picture above), famous 15th century Sera Monastery, Jokhang Monastery and walk in Lhasa.
