Breathtaking landscapes of Tibet and some of world’s main holy sites - these three weeks will definitely turn to life lasting memories. We will start in the ancient Kathmandu valley, then explore the capital of Tibet - Lhasa, will visit the grand Potala - Palace of the Dalai lama. After enjoying Manasarovar lake, considered holy by Hindu and Buddhist alike, and will perform kora - the pilgrimage trek around the holy Kailas mountain, the most mystical place on Earth. Having visited remains of the 10th century Guge kingdom and the highest monastery in the world, we will arrive at the foot of the majestic Everest mountain, the base camp.
  • Day 1-3
Arrival in Kathmandu, checking into a hotel on Freak street. During our two days in Nepalese capital we will visit all the famous attractions of the city - the ancient Swayambhunath complex, Durbar square and the remains of Boudhanath - the largest single Chorten in the world, severely damaged during 2015 Nepal earthquake. We will also visit the remains of ancient kingdoms of Patan and Bhaktapur on the outskirts of the city.
  • Day 4-6
Departure to Lhasa on a specially rented bus and crossing the border with China. It will take us approximately 3 days to get to Lhasa (1002 km), during which we will be stopping for sightseeing and nights in hotels as well as slowly adapting to the growing altitudes. On the way we visit major attractions and spiritual centers of Central Tibet: 15th century Tashilunpo monastery in Xigaze, the Kumbum Stupa and fortress in Gyantse and sacred Yamdrok Tso lake. We will be staying overnight in simple guest houses. On the way to Lhasa we will also cross the pass at an altitude of 5200 m above sea level and few other 5000 m passes.
  • Day 7-9
Arrival in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region, checking into a hotel. We visit the grand Potala Palace - residence of Dalai Lamas (see the picture above), famous 15th century Sera Monastery, Jokhang Monastery and walk in Lhasa.
  • Day 10-14
A bus trip to Kailash will take us two days. We cross the Tibetan Plateau and admire the scenery - the road rises gradually to Mayum La pass (5207 m), descending to the Manasarovar lake with stunning views of Gurla Mandhata Himal peak (7728 m) and the sacred Mount Kailash. Overnight we will stay in a guest house near the lake and in the morning visit small temple Chiu Gompa built into the cliffs on a hill. Those interested can later enjoy the nearby hot springs. In the afternoon we will move to Darchen village, check into a simple guest house at the foot of Mount Kailash and prepare for kora - the trekking pilgrimage.
  • Day 15-17
First day of kora consists of 6-7 hours of easy trekking. We will walk past Chuku monastery, along valley of Lha Chu river and spend a night in a simple guest house near Dirapuk monastery (4900m). Second day of kora is the most challenging. Our trek will include several sharp ascends and descends and will last for 8-12 hours. We will walk up to Tara/Dolma La pass (5750m) slowly where we will have some rest before descending to the valley. Tibetan people believe that a new life starts from this pass. We walk down to the sacred Thukpe Dzingbu Lake, past Zutulpuk monastery (4790m) and spend a night in a simple guest house nearby. Last, third day of kora is easy - we will walk for 3-4 hours to Darchen where we will have lunch in a simple restaurant. Then a bus takes us back to Mansarovar lake for some swim and rest, then to the nearby village where we spend a night in a guesthouse with stunning views of Mansarovar lake, the highest peak of Tibetan plateau - Gurla Mandhata (7728m) and the holy Mount Kailash.
  • Day 18-19
In the morning we take a bus to the ancient capital of Guge kingdom - Tsaparang. The kingdom was founded in X century and existed for seven centuries. What remains of it now is ruins of the city and the grand royal palace. We spend a night in a guesthouse.
  • Day 20
We move to Saga town and spend a night in a hotel. In the morning we take a bus to the foot of Everest where we spend a night in tents. Next morning we start a short 2 hour trek to the base camp of Everest. Those unwilling to walk can take a bus. After the base camp we will visit Rongbuk monastery - the highest monastery in the world, with stunning views of the north face of Mount Everest. From here we take a bus to Tingri where we spend a night in a guesthouse.
  • Day 23
Bus to Jangmu, a village on the border with Nepal. Night in a hotel.
  • Day 24
Crossing of Nepalese border and a 4-5 hour bus ride to Kathmandu. Checking into a hotel, rest and free time.
