Tour description

Two neighboring countries with very similar past, yet very different present. We start in Malaysia, with it`s jungles, diverse heritage and ultra-modern cities. Then, we go beyond tourist havens of Indonesia, exploring Martian landscapes of Bromo and Ijen volcanoes, Sulawesi island, beautiful waterfalls and magical Bali. We will also marvel at unique underwater world of Togean and Bunaken islands.

The trip is of light physical grade. Expect long city and jungle walks, one night ferry trip, several long daytime rides in hired minivans or off-road vehicles with sightseeing on the way, as well as speed boat rides and seven short flights. We will stay in tourist class hotels and bungalows on the beach, most will have Wi-Fi internet and hot water.

Price of the trip includes:

  • Seven domestic flights: Kuala-Lumpur  – Penang – Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur – Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta – Surabaya, Denpasar – Makassar, Makassar – Luwuk, Gorontalo – Manado; 
  • All accommodation, including twin and triple rooms of simple hotels and bungalows on the beach; 
  • All transportation including buses, boats, ferries, hired and public transport; 
  • Food on Kadidiri island + breakfasts in some hotels; 
  • Professional guiding services.

 

To be paid separately:

  • Flight to Kuala Lumpur and back home from Manado; 
  • Medical insurance (mandatory); 
  • Entrance fees to temples, parks and other attractions (up to $160-200) and additional excursions on the islands ($45);
  • Diving (from $28 per dive or PADI Open Water diving course including 5 dives, test and certification – $390); 
  • Snorkeling ($7-10 per day for snorkeling gear rent); 
  • Food ($8-20 per person per day).

Day 1

Arrival in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, checking into a hotel.

Day 2

We visit holy Hindu Batu caves, then head to the world’s largest covered bird park and explore Petronas twin towers with a lush park. For dinner we head to the famous Alor Street known for seafood and other mouthwatering Asian dishes.

Day 3

Bus to Malacca, the oldest town in Malaysia. We visit the History and Ethnography Museum, ride a boat down the Malacca river, explore the old town and remains of the fort. After lunch we go back to Kuala Lumpur by bus (2 hours) and fly to Penang island (1 hour) where we check into a hotel in the historic center.
