We start in Malaysia by visiting modern capital Kuala Lumpur and colorful Penang island, famous for its old city center and finger licking food. Then the road takes us to Indonesia. On Sumatra island we visit a unique lake and orangutang national park. On Java we explore grand complexes of Borobudur and Prambanan and conquer volcanoes of Bromo and Ijen. Then on Bali we visit famous temples and beaches and discover hidden treasures off the tourist path. Finally, we enjoy stunning underwater world of magical Gili islands.
  • Day 1-2
    Morning arrival in Kuala Lumpur, cheking into a hotel in the center. During two days we will visit holy Batu caves, the biggest free-flight bird park in the world, famous Petronas twin towers and colourful Little India district. In the evening those interested can visit the famous helipad bar&club on top of the skyscraper. At the end of our stay we take a comfortable night bus to Penang island.
  • Day 3-4
    Morning arrival in Penang, where we check into a hotel in the historic city center. During two days we will visit grand Kek Lok Si temple, considered the largest Buddhist monastery in Southeast Asia, and a colonial Christian cemetery. We will also explore cozy old streets of Penang’s UNESCO World heritage area, and enjoy finger liking food in local food courts and cafes. Next day we explore National park and enjoy Batu Ferringhi beach.
  • Day 5-6
    Morning flight to Medan, a city on Indonesia's Sumatra island. Bus ride (5 hours) to lake Toba - the largest volcanic lake in the world. We visit Samosir island in the middle of the lake, with its tiny villages, check into a hotel nearby and enjoy crystal clear water and air. Next evening we take a minivan (2 hours) to a lovely village of Bukit Lawang in Gunung Leuser National Park and check into a guesthouse.
  • Day 7
    This day is dedicated to exploration of Gunung Leuser National Park famous for its population of five thousand orangutans (which literally means “forest people” in Indonesian). We will have the opportunity to see these animals up close and take pictures. In the evening we come back to Medan (2 hours) by bus, and check into a guest house.
  • Day 8-9
    Morning flight to Yogyakarta, checking into a hotel in the center. Two days in the city, known as a cultural capital of Indonesia, will be spent enjoying Indian ocean beaches, visiting nearby picturesque lake, a waterfall and marveling at sunrise with a view over Merapi volcano. We will also visit two of the most famous temple complexes in the world – Buddhist Borobudur and Hindu Prambanan, both of 9th century and enjoy the famous restaurant in town.
  • Day 10
    Train trip (8 hours) to Probolingo, check into a hotel on a plato not far from the most famous volcano of Indonesia - Bromo.
  • Day 11
    Morning trip to Bromo Tengger Semeru national park by jeeps where we will visit volcano's crater and enjoy stunning sunrise. We are back to our hotel for breakfast, rest until lunch and then visit Madakaripura waterfalls consisting of nine 200 meters tall waterfalls. After a 7 hour long bus ride to Bondovoso, we check into a hotel near Ijen volcano and visit stunning waterfalls in the mountains.
  • Day 12
    Early in the morning we ride jeeps and then walk to the top of volcano, where hundreds of miners excavate sulfur every night. We then take a bus and a ferry to Bali where we check into a hotel.
  • Day 13
    In the morning we take speedboats to the nearby Menjangan Island – the best place for diving and snorkeling. At lunchtime we are back to Bali for rest.
  • Day 14-16
    During three days on Bali we will be exploring the island on minivans, visiting Besakih temple and Tanah Lot rock temple. We will also trek to the waterfall in Munduk region, explore local jungle, marvel at picturesque coffee plantations and rice paddies, and enjoy beaches off the beaten track. We will then explore northern part of the island, visit fruit bazaars and watch colorful local Kecak fire dances.
  • Day 17-19
    In the morning you bid farewell to your tour guide and take a speedboat (3 hours) to Gili islands. Here you check into a hotel and enjoy diving, snorkeling and swimming with turtles. Keep in mind that all kinds of motorised vehicles are banned on the islands so visitors and locals are getting around on bicycles and horses.
  • Day 20
    Morning flight to Kuala Lumpur. Flight back home.

Is this trip for you?

This trip is dynamic, of above average difficulty level. It consists of easy short walks in natural parks and long walks in cities and towns. We will also spend one night in a comfortable night bus and have several bus and jeep rides up to 8 hours long, with stops for food and sightseeing on the way. Itinerary also includes several short ferry and speedboat rides and three short flights. Accommodation in simple hotels and guesthouses, some will have hot water and wi fi internet.

Price of the trip includes:

  • Three flights (Penang-Medan, Medan - Yogyakarta, Bali - Kuala Lumpur);
  • Accommodation in double (sometimes triple and more) rooms of simple hotels, guesthouses and bungalows during the entire trip;
  • All transportation, including buses, ferries, speedboats, rented vehicles, taxies and all public transportation;
  • Professional guiding services (until day 17).

To be paid separately:

  • Flight to Kuala Lumpur and from Kuala Lumpur back home;
  • Entrance tickets to temples, parks and other places of interest, as well as excursion in Tankoko park ($200);
  • Snorkeling ($6-8 for mask rent per day);
  • Visa to Indonesia ($50);
  • Airport fees inside Indonesia ($45);
  • Food ($8-20 per person per day).

Citizens of many countries need a visa to enter Indonesia. Visa costs $50 and will be obtained by the entire group in Malaysia.
