Tour description

We start in Malaysia by visiting modern capital Kuala Lumpur and colorful Penang island, famous for its old city center and finger licking food. Then the road takes us to Indonesia. On Sumatra island we visit a unique lake and orangutang national park. On Java we explore grand complexes of Borobudur and Prambanan and conquer volcanoes of Bromo and Ijen. Then on Bali we visit famous temples and beaches and discover hidden treasures off the tourist path. Finally, we enjoy stunning underwater world of magical Gili islands.

Is this trip for you?

This trip is dynamic, of above average difficulty level. It consists of easy short walks in natural parks and long walks in cities and towns. We will also spend one night in a comfortable night bus and have several bus and jeep rides up to 8 hours long, with stops for food and sightseeing on the way. Itinerary also includes several short ferry and speedboat rides and three short flights. Accommodation in simple hotels and guesthouses, some will have hot water and wi fi internet.

Price of the trip includes:

  • Three flights (Penang-Medan, Medan - Yogyakarta, Bali - Kuala Lumpur);
  • Accommodation in double (sometimes triple and more) rooms of simple hotels, guesthouses and bungalows during the entire trip;
  • All transportation, including buses, ferries, speedboats, rented vehicles, taxies and all public transportation;
  • Professional guiding services (until day 17).

To be paid separately:

  • Flight to Kuala Lumpur and from Kuala Lumpur back home;
  • Entrance tickets to temples, parks and other places of interest, as well as excursion in Tankoko park ($200);
  • Snorkeling ($6-8 for mask rent per day);
  • Visa to Indonesia ($50);
  • Airport fees inside Indonesia ($45);
  • Food ($8-20 per person per day).

Tour itinerary

Day 1-2

Morning arrival in Kuala Lumpur, cheking into a hotel in the center. During two days we will visit holy Batu caves, the biggest free-flight bird park in the world, famous Petronas twin towers and colourful Little India district. In the evening those interested can visit the famous helipad bar&club on top of the skyscraper. At the end of our stay we take a comfortable night bus to Penang island.

Day 3-4

Morning arrival in Penang, where we check into a hotel in the historic city center. During two days we will visit grand Kek Lok Si temple, considered the largest Buddhist monastery in Southeast Asia, and a colonial Christian cemetery. We will also explore cozy old streets of Penang’s UNESCO World heritage area, and enjoy finger liking food in local food courts and cafes. Next day we explore National park and enjoy Batu Ferringhi beach.

Day 5-6

Morning flight to Medan, a city on Indonesia's Sumatra island. Bus ride (5 hours) to lake Toba - the largest volcanic lake in the world. We visit Samosir island in the middle of the lake, with its tiny villages, check into a hotel nearby and enjoy crystal clear water and air. Next evening we take a minivan (2 hours) to a lovely village of Bukit Lawang in Gunung Leuser National Park and check into a guesthouse.
