We will be cycling for 734 km across probably the most virgin county in Asia - Kyrgyzstan. After going along the famous Issyk-Kul lake, and Toktogul dam, we visit Fairytale canyon, and descend to the colourful Fergana valley. Several days will be spent exploring main cities of Bishkek and Osh and taking a short mountain walk to the crystal clear lakes. We will live in tents and yurts, enjoy hot springs and and meeting friendly locals.
  • Day 1
    Arrival in Bishkek, checking into a hostel.
  • Day 2
    In the morning we visit a bike rental where we choose bicycles. After lunch in a famous Chinese restaurant in the center we explore the city.
  • Day 3
    We depart by a vehicle carrying our bikes to Issyk-Ata gorge (1.5 hours on the way) where we visit hot springs. Then we cycle 31 km down to the village of Sary-John, enjoying breathtaking views. Near the village we get back into the car and proceed to the town of Cholpon-Ata (5 hours) on the northern shore of Issyk-Kul lake where we check into a guesthouse. Distance by bicycle: 30.8 km Ascend by bicycle: 110 m
  • Day 4
    After breakfast we cycle for 27 km along the Issyk-Kul lake and then hop in the car to reach eastern bank of the lake. There we switch to bicycles and cycle for 21 km, hopping back into the car to reach the town of Karakol where we check into guesthouse. In the evening we enjoy the town, and visit local hot springs. Distance by bicycle: 48.7 km Ascend by bicycle: 219 m
  • Day 5
    In the morning we are driven to Karakol canyon and then hike for 3.5 km through fields of wildflowers to the wonderful Ala-Kul lake with crystal clear water, surrounded by rocks. After enjoying the scenery we descend back to town by bikes (25 km). Distance by bicycle: 25 km Ascend by bicycle: 193 m
  • Day 6
    In the morning we cycle for 75 km to the village of Kadji Sai where we have lunch. We visit the nearby Fairy tale canyon, where centuries of wind erosion turned rocks into some wonderfully shaped creatures. We set up our camp near Issyk-Kul lake and cook our food on campfire. Distance by bicycle: 75 km Ascend by bicycle: 584 m
  • Day 7
    The car drives us up 3990 meters in the mountains from where we mostly descend for 53 km by bikes, enjoying breathtaking views. We set up tents and prepare our own food on campfire. Distance by bicycle: 53 km Ascend by bicycle: 565 m
  • Day 8
    In the morning we are driven 3200 meters up the hill and then cycle mostly down for 69 km to Song Kol lake, passing by rivers and blooming meadows. We will spend the night in yurts with hospitable locals and buy trout, kumis and other delicacies from them. Those interested can try riding a horse or a donkey who are always greasing in these places. Distance by bicycle: 69 km Ascend by bicycle: 693 m
  • Day 9
    From the height of 3300 meters we cycle mostly downhill for 45 km to Karakeche village. There we have lunch, rest and then cycle for 49 km more to a spot not far from Ak-Tal village where we set up our camp and cook dinner. Distance by bicycle: 93 km Ascend by bicycle: 1134 m
  • Day 10
    In the morning we start cycling for 43 km to the town of Kazarman in the colorful Fergana valley. The town is situated on the Naryn river and is known for its ancient stone carvings which we will visit after lunch. We then go by car to the height of 3000 meters and cycle for almost 50 km to the town of Taran-Bazar. We set up our camp near the town and prepare food. Distance by bicycle: 90 km Ascend by bicycle: 1577 m
  • Day 11
    In the morning we start our 40 km bicycle ride to the town of Jalal-Abad, marveling at views on the way. After lunch we travel for 2 hours by car to Osh, the second largest city in Kyrgyzstan where we check into a guesthouse. Distance by bicycle: 38.5 km Ascend by bicycle: 163 m
  • Day 12
    The car takes us to the town of Tashkömür located at the edge of the Tien Shan Mountains. After lunch and then proceed to Toktogul water dam (42 km), known for its surreal color of water. We set up our camp near the dam and cook dinner on the campfire. Distance by bicycle: 42 km Ascend by bicycle: 1107 m
  • Day 13
    This day we will spend cycling for 15 km along the dam, enjoying marvelous open spaces and scenery, then mostly descending for 30 km and setting up our camp not far from the village of Torkent. Distance by bicycle: 44 km Ascend by bicycle: 938 m
  • Day 14
    We cycle from the height of 1900 meters to 3000 meters for 40 km. Here mountains with small forests give way to alpine tundra and beautiful views of snow covered peaks. After lunch in the midst of this scenery we cycle down to the deserted Suusamyr Valley carpeted with wildflowers and herbs of many colours. We set up tents here and cook our dinner on campfire. Distance by bicycle: 57.8 km Ascend by bicycle: 2326 m
  • Day 15
    The car takes us up 3500 meters, from there we cycle to the village of Sosnovka on a serpentine road. We have lunch in the village, then proceed by car to the small home temple of Buddhists in the village 20 km from Bishkek. Here we will meet hospitable locals, have dinner and stay for two nights. Those interested can participate in the evening Buddhist ceremony. Distance by bicycle: 51.7 km Ascend by bicycle: 1033 m
  • Day 16
    Free day. Those interested can participate in the morning and evening Buddhist ceremonies, do yoga and take a walk to the nearby grand mountains, enjoying virgin nature, waist high grass and wildflowers and wonderful views.
  • Day 17
    The car takes us to Bishkek airport. Flight back home.

Is this trip for you? 

This trip is difficult and requires some cycling skills and good health condition. We will be accompanied by a special vehicle carrying our bikes for some very tough parts of the road. We will cycle for 734 km, mostly on automobile roads of average and below average condition. In cities and towns we will be living in guesthouses and hostels, most will have hot water and wi fi internet. Many nights will be spent in tents, often near lakes or rivers, some nights we will spend in yurts with locals. During camping we will be cooking our own dinners on campfire. Last two nights will be spent in the small home run Buddhist temple. 


Price of the trip includes: 

  • Bicycle rent in Bishkek;
  • Rental of tents, camping equipment and all cooking appliances;
  • All transportation by a special vehicle which will be carrying bicycles;
  • Accommodation in double/twin (sometimes more) rooms of guesthouses and simple hotels in cities;
